Turkey and Syria
Written by: Vidur Srikrishna
Summary:
Turkey and Syria faced a terrible earthquake reaching 7.8 magnitude. The death toll continues to rise as volunteer helpers try to rescue people trapped under fallen buildings. The white helmets, rescuers who are used to saving people from bombings, say that they have never seen something quite like this before. In order to offset the damages caused by earthquakes in the future, Turkey and Syria could invest in better infrastructure. After seeing how the buildings collapsed, this could save lives and money. At the time of writing this, the damage is estimated to be around 50 - 85 billion US dollars.
